The 'Five Sisters Series' was painted in 2015 after a visit to Kintail and based on studies created there at that time. The whole series is painted with a very limited palette: titanium white, yellow ocher, paynes grey, and prussian blue, varying the ratios to create different atmospheres and feelings in each painting.

It's once again been a time of change which has allowed me to work on a few different things. Although we are still in lockdown in Scotland it is now easier to get out for more exercise which has given me the opportunity to start work on a series of new landscape. The weather has also change over the last few days, we had been having beautiful sunshine, but my last few early morning walks have been in very atmospheric and dower low clouds. Actually for me this has been ideal as I've had an idea in my head for a while and these meteorologic conditions meshed perfectly with it.

Over the years I've experienced all kinds of weather conditions on the West Coast of Scotland; but the most evocative would be the low cloud. I've expressed this on a couple of time previously but recently I've been thinking about expanding on the idea to produce landscape paintings that are almost monochromatic and with virtually no contrast. these have been influenced not only by this geography but also by the white paintings of Robert Ryman and the mists and grey of Gerhard Richter. Its certainly going to be quite an experimental project to see how far I can push the image whist still retaining the feel of landscapes far than to go into full abstraction,
