My first new work created entirely at Athole House Studio in Scotland after the opening, was the 'Mauve Skies Series'. These paintings were a reaction to the unique light that I believe exists on the West Coast of Scotland and particularly over the Firth of Clyde where the studio is located.

My first new work created entirely at Athole House Studio in Scotland after the opening, was the 'Mauve Skies Series'. These paintings were a reaction to the unique light that I believe exists on the West Coast of Scotland and particularly over the Firth of Clyde where the studio is located.
As I'm sure is apparent from the imagery these are essentially abstractions of cloud forms and colours. Once again, the imagery here is really just a vehicle for the paint. It should also be noted just how important the colour was to these pieces, as reflected in most of their titles. In some ways I consider this to perhaps be the beginning of my colourist practice which also became part of 'Americana'.
