Unfortunately my 'Americana' series was interrupted during its initial stage by the outbreak of Covid 19 and my enforced repatriation to Scotland for the period of self-isolation; although this time proved to be a very productive one. Up this this point I had produced a series of studies in oil which, although still a long way off the mark are at least beginning to head there. I am intending to continue my work on this project with my return to the USA, although I think that the work that I have produced during this hiatus may well alter the outcomes.

As with all of my painting, even my more, 'image' based work, paint is my primary concern. When I do use images they exist merely vehicles for my brush and knife marks. When based at 10th Street Studios in West Virginia I am fortunate in many ways, the light of WV is truly stunning, as of course is the scenery. Both of these elements are perfect for the colourist element of this project which has lead my having to modify my usual palette from it's slightly dower Scottish selection to a brighter, southern array.
