Carved from this Land
Dunoon Burgh Hall
Athole House Studio,
Scotland, 2019.
Having spent some 30 years exploring Scotland both artistically and physically in 2018 I opened my first studio there. After many years teaching, during which time my practice was restricted, I wanted to return to painting in very physical terms. The idea was work in heavy impasto oil paint, exclusively with the with knife,; carving out images which capture the raw beauty of Scotland both in nature and in manmade forms.

Athole House Studio, where I am based when in Scotland is situated on the Firth of Clyde. looking outward to the sea and inwards to the mountains, both of which are cloaked in, the famous, big Scottish skies. The series was exhibited at Dunoon Burgh Hall in 2019.
